Coastal BC Plants: Moss and LIchen
Moss and Lichen
The moss covering the granite cliff next to our cabin changes with the seasons, sort of like a botanic chameleon. This time of year it has a pretty yellow glow.
Not much else can grow on the rocky surface, but with all this colour who needs lots of grass and flowers.
I love the way the lighter moss seems to cascade over the edge, making it look like a living waterfall. -- Margy

Great pictures - love the cascade too. We have a couple of rocks on our rock wall that have the yellow moss - I'd not seen it before this year. Moss of all kinds fascinates me.

ReplyDeleteThose are great moss photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, moss is such a wonderful ground cover...we are actually working on a long term plan of getting the areas that have both grass and moss to eventually become only moss...woo hoo to no more mowing! And it's so pretty and soft and natural! I love it on your rocks, we have that too, but our patches are smaller than yours and mostly in the woods.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for stopping by to read and comment. Good thing I got these pictures late in June. Everything is now faded and brittle dry. But a little rain come fall it it will all be back to lush moss. - Margy
