Granville Island Public Market

There's nothing like a farmer's market, and Granville Island has a wonderful one. It's indoors and has lots of booths to choose from for flowers, vegetable, baked goods, coffee and tea, meats, and delis. There are also great places to get a quick late breakfast, lunch, or early dinner. Market hours are 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Rather than buy a lunch, I decided to build my own by shopping. I got a glass of fresh squeezed organic grapefruit juice from Fraser Valley Juice & Salad, a fresh sesame bagel from Siegel's Bagels, and a slice of organic BC Alpindon cow's milk cheese from Benton Brothers Fine Cheeses. I took my booty outdoors and found a bench overlooking the water. What a great meal.

I wasn't the only one to think it looked good. One of the ubiquitous seagulls kept me company through the whole meal. A raised palm, and a firm no kept him in his place. But those hungry eyes were hard to ignore. -- Margy

  1. I see tons of seagulls where I live by the beach...yet, I never tire of them.

That market looks like my kinda place to spend an entire day.

  2. I think I want to go visit Granville Island sometime. Looks like a neat place.

Lots of Saucer Magnolias down this way and the smaller but just a pretty Star Magnolia. I love em. Make me a Southern Belle---haha!! MB

  3. When I was there in February I couldn't get a decent in-the-market picture - way too many people jostling in the aisles. You must have caught a slow day.

  4. The best time really to take good photos of the market inside when it first opens for the day. Earlier the better. Your meal sounded and looked yummy! I agree about the seagulls, they can be a nuisance while eating.

I am craving to get back to Vancouver to enjoy Granville Island again. Nice shots!

  5. Thanks everyone for stopping by and commenting on my Camera Critter post.

MB - you should give it a try. It is a straight drive north and now is a good time before all the "tourists" arrive.

Paul - I was there on a Tuesday afternoon. Probably that was part of it. Plus Stephanie has a good suggestion, get there early. I went back the next morning for a breakfast snack and it was about the same.

If anyone goes, there is a bakery about in the middle of the market. They have a pastry called a cinnamon record. It is a crispy wheel baked with lots of cinnamon and sugar. It's about the size of an LP (am I dating myself?) - to die for!

  8. Oh, look at that face, Margy. How could you say no to that face? That tilted head? Those pink feet and that bright yellow nose?
You've sure got me thinking about Granville Island. I've promised to visit a dying friend when I'm out next month, and she lives in Kitsilano, not far from there.
