Cruising the Highways of Coastal BC

The Texada Island Ferry patiently waits offshore each evening for the Comox Ferry to return to Powell River from Vancouver Island. This time of year it's just after sunset when the sky has a warm glow and the water turns a luxurious iridescent blue.

After all the cars and passengers have disembarked, the smaller Texada Island Ferry docks to pick up anyone traveling on to Texada Island. Here on the Sunshine Coast, our highways include an ocean cruise. Come visit Powell River and see how much fun getting here can be. -- Margy

  1. It would be even better if the government thought of our ferries as part of the highway system.

And I could never figure out why they schedule both the Texada and Comox ferries to hit PR at the same time in the evening. And have done for the 40 years I've lived here!

  2. I've never been to Texada Island, although my godmother used to talk about it. I believe her family had a place there "in the olden days".
You're right about driving to Powell River. I love the "sea cruise" part of the trip. Fantastic scenery.

  3. Paul - I've always assumed they scheduled the ferries this way to let people heading to Texada can get off one ferry and right one another to get home. But maybe that is too logical for our ferries.

Kay - Wayne and I went to Texada airplane camping years before we discovered Powell River. It really is a nice, quiet place to visit.
