Coastal BC Birds: Hummingbirds in Slow Motion

Hummingbirds

I've been intrigued by all the hummingbirds at the cabin now that we have two feeders.  In the past, one or two would buzz the front of our cabin looking for something to eat to no avail.

The first feeder was such a success, I bought another one to try to keep up with their hungry tummies. The smaller feeder empties before the end of the day. The larger no drip model lasts about two or three depending on how many birds partake.
After we experienced a feeding frenzy a few weeks back, things have settled down to about a dozen active feeders. I decided to take some more video and see what they looked like in slow motion. Take a look.

It's amazing, even at 12.5% speed they zip extremely vast. Hope you enjoyed the slow motion video. -- Margy

  1. I made some really good hummer crack (syrup water) two weeks ago and attracted 3 hummers. I don't feed them in winter so wait until they arrive in Spring to perch in the neighbors flowering tree then put out my feeder. Love watching them. I love your video

    1. That's a cute name for hummingbird food. This is my first year with the feeder. I started in May and will probably go until the numbers start to dwindle. I don't want to encourage them to stay for winter when we are gone so much. - Margy

  2. I've never ever seen anything that amazing - loved that I could hear they little voices too. What was that sound at the end? I must get a feeder - I have one hummer that comes to the flowers - maybe I can get more to visit.

    1. Not sure about the bird call at the end. It is slowed down, maybe our resident robin. Maybe someone here knows. - Margy

  4. How fun - you really get the hummers there. Here in the high desert, I have 6 feeders out, hopefully keeping a few hummers really happy. I also plant a lot of different flowers that the hummers like to feed on. Love the show they put on for us all summer!

    1. The hummers don't like my marigolds, but the bees seem to. I have to fill the small feeder every morning and the big one every three days to keep up with them. - Margy
