Last week when Wayne and I were enjoying the lake in our tin boat, I happened to look up and see something dark moving across a rock slide on the lake shore.
At first I thought it might be a black wolf. One has been seen in our area. But as we moved closer, it was obviously a black bear.
It was moving slowly and waiting near the edge of the forest. On closer inspection, we saw a small cub trying to negotiate the steep slope. I'm happy to report that Mom and Kid made it safely to the other side. -- Margy
Glad the little one made it across that difficult terrain. Glad the big one didn't decide to swim after you. LOL

Rare to see a momma and a cub where you can safely watch them. When I was a kid in the interior of BC my sister was horseback riding and came across a Blackbear and cub by accident. The momma bear chased her and the horse - the horse was scared and ended up throwing her into a tree where she got knocked out. Fortunately the bear quit chasing by that time. We knew something was up when the horse came home on its own without her so we went out with that same horse (they are like dogs, acting scared when close to what made them shy in the first place) and we found her unconscious. She was in hospital for 3 days in traction. Very scary.
ReplyDeleteNice to watch the bears from a distance. I remember we saw one while on the train heading to Vancouver .. mom one side of tracks and baby the other side. We were in the last car on the train and watched as the young one crossed behind the train to get to mom. The train wasn't moving at the time.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. That must have been amazing to watch! Glad they made it safely to the other side and that you made it home undetected. :-)
ReplyDeleteDitto to all the comments about your safety.

Such a beautiful place! You were in the right place at the right time to get such great shots of mama bear and her baby.
