As the fisherman's saying goes, "When the dogwoods are in bloom, fishing is good."
The Pacific Dogwood was adopted in 1956 as British Columbia's provincial flower.
I think it's a great choice. The large white flowers really stand out when you get up close.
Pacific Dogwood in Bloom |
The tin boat (follow this link for a ride on YouTube) is our favourite for fishing near our float cabin. Wayne uses a smaller lake downrigger and fishes at about 25'. I let out a long line and work the surface waters. Once we got into First Narrows, I got hung up on a snag.
We maneuvered back and I retrieved my flasher and favourite lure. Then it was Wayne's turn. But this was no snag. He reeled in a nice rainbow trout. The first fish of the season that began on April 1. We continued to troll. I caught another snag. When I reeled in my line, there was a 2" (yes, two inch) bullhead. I'm sure you understand why I didn't take a picture. I'll try again before the blossoms fall. -- Margy
Your blog about the 2 incher really made me laugh. Better luck next time.
ReplyDeleteA bit embarrassing, but the process of fishing is more fun for me than the catching (most of the time). - Margy
DeleteHi, Margy! The fisherman’s saying is reliable because weather changes every year. Regarding “flower as a weather clock”, farmers start farming at the sight of Kobushi magnolia’s blooming in northern part of Japan. Enjoy fishing!

Thanks for the interesting natural almanac fact. - Margy
DeleteGreat fish story - looks like you had a good time anyway. The photos are glorious.
ReplyDeleteLove the dogwoods .. Hope there are still some in bloom when we get back to oregon! Good fish story. I like to GO fishing, but I don't like to fish. I like to watch birds (and dogwoods) and walk and doze while other people actually do the fishing )))
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little my mom did that while my dad and I fished. Since I was an only child, I did lots of things with my dad. - Margy
DeleteIsn't this fun? Isabelle was given a light, lovely fishing rod for her birthday. The kids went to a cottage with friends and she caught a bass! I asked Caitlin if they ate it and she said it was only big enough for a fish stick! It was right off the dock!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute, "big enough for a fish stick." - Margy
