I found this pattern for a single crochet scarf at the Lion Brand Yarn website. They called it a Wedding Favor Scarf. I call it an Easy Peasy Crochet Scarf. Here are the directions.
Easy Peasy Crochet Scarf
ch(s) = chain(s)
sc = single crochet
SCARF
Ch 121
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 12o sc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across
Rows 3-14: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
Add fringe if desired.
I chose to use Lion Brand Homespun in Fiesta colour. It made a beautiful, nubby, multicoloured scarf. The yarn is twisted with a tight thread holding the twists in place. On the down side, I found it very difficult to use and hard to pick up the back loops without splitting the yarn. On the up side, it hides a multitude of errors. Not a bad thing for a beginner like me.
Do you have any patterns to suggest for a beginner like me? My hook is itching to get started again. -- Margy
Looks great, Margy. No one would know you're a beginner if you didn't tell them!
ReplyDeleteAll the best for you and yours, at Christmas and in the new year.

You did a marvelous job. It looks wonderful. Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring you much joy.
ReplyDeleteThat looks lovely, might even have a go myself. Merry Christmas to you and yours and here's to a great New Year xxx
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Margy. The scarf is beautiful, I'm sure your friend will appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! What a lovely gift. It will definitely come in handy in the upcoming chilliness. I did not get my mother's talent in sewing, but I've recently begun to try again. It makes me feel closer to my mom.
ReplyDeleteI just signed up for my SECOND knitting/crochet class. I learned knitting the first class and this time, I think I'll concentrate on crochet. This looks like a great scarf to learn on. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beauty! Well done. I got a beginners book last month, but haven't tried any of the patterns yet. My father-in-laws wife showed me a how to do a circular pattern - I made an ugly hot pad as practice. My mom was wonderful at crochet - used to make me all sorts of stuff (including a granny squares vest when I was 12 which I really liked) and a whole dress at 15 which I didn't like at all :0 .
ReplyDeleteShe claims she doesn't remeber how to do it any more, but I might ask her to show me anyway...the tactile memory might kick in.
I saw a scarf with granny squares worked in every so often that I thought was so cool. And tea cozies...I wanna do one of those.
I'm looking forward to your next creation.
