Last night we had quite a wind storm in Powell River. Up the lake at our float cabin in Hole in the Wall it was gusty from about 4:30 to 9:00 am with speeds up to 27 knots (50 kph or 31 mph). That's not hurricane force winds, but it was enough to flip some burgers the hard way.
We rode out the winds in style thanks to our good friend John's invention of steel anchor cable shock absorbers. I even got back to sleep, a rare occurrence during wind storms. Click here to find out more about how the shock absorbers work. There's even a short video. -- Margy
Sure do understand about the wind and the grill. We get a lot of wind here, too, and very strong. I looked out the kitchen window one day to see our gas grill headed down the stairs off the deck. This was with the legs in the locked position, pulled away from a sheltered spot against a wall, turned around and moved over ten feet to get to the stairs. Mother Nature likes to remind us that she is in charge around here! Hope your grill is okay.
ReplyDeleteGlad your safe. Was there an effect to the wind generator?
ReplyDeleteHi Margy, I hope every thing else is ok and there wasn't to much damage to the other cabins on the lake. ~~Hugs~~
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for stopping by. Fortunately where our cabin is we are fairly protected. The wind can get brutal on other parts of the lake and occasionally a cabin is damaged, but they are pretty sturdy structures from the floats up. One day we were listening to the radio when they reported a yellow cabin floating loose near Cassiar Island. Fortunately everyone on the lake helps each other when problems occur. - Margy
ReplyDeleteScary if you live on a lake! I'm glad you are in a protected area. That was good thinking on your part!
