Between storms, fall brings clear blue skies in Coastal BC. Riding BC Ferries to and from Powell River is a good time to get sky views.
Powell River is on the coast about 100 km north of Vancouver, but it takes two ferry rides to get here. That is one reason we have a town with a strong sense of community and why we are less hectic and crowded than the lower Sunshine Coast.
After you drive the length of the lower Sunshine Coast on Highway 101, you arrive at the Earl's Cove ferry terminal. You pay the fare for the whole trip at Horseshoe Bay, so all you have to do is park in the ferry lineup. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the views of water, sky and nearby mountain peaks.
After a 50 minute ride you arrive at Saltery Bay, south of Powell River. Saltery Bay is a small residential community. It was originally the site of a fish salting company back in the early 20th century, hence the name. From there it is about a about 40 minute drive to town. Along the way are several resorts, bed and breakfasts, restaurants and sporting goods establishments. There's also the ocean, forests and the expansive sky to enjoy along the way. I hope you can come visit my piece of paradise. I know you will enjoy it as much as I do. -- Margy
Wow! I'm ready to come! Reminds me of the fjiords of Norway, a place much farther away that I've been to, while I have not been just up the coast to yours.
ReplyDeleteHi Margy, Love your pictures. In the third one that is a very interesting formation,at first I thought it was a large cloud .
ReplyDeletewow, Margy, what a beautiful tour! Sky watch and water watch - you live in a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful shots of the sky and surrounding area. I think being secluded by a ferry ride would be such a nice way to slow down the pace of life! Thanks for visiting my SWF.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful country up there. Thanks for stopping by GDP! Cheers from Gabriola

What a gorgeous part of the world you live in. I follow other BC bloggers, and just can't get enough of your scenery. It's always ike going on a mini vacation. That ferry ride would be so relaxing, and a great way to do photos.

ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful images, Margy! I've visited the Toronto area (family there), Winnepeg and up near the Hudson Bay, but I've never made it west past Manitoba. After seeing these photos, I'll definitely be adding British Columbia to my list of places to visit!

ReplyDeleteVery stunning. I have only been to Vancouver. That was nice, but it would be good to take a look outside the urban areas.

Thanks for visiting, Margy.

ReplyDeletelove, love love the mountain views! Gorgeous, thanks for sharing. happy SWF!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great ferry trip. Longest one I've been on is 5 minutes across a mile of river here in town - not much need for them elsewhere for all the bridges and the only other water is ocean - not conducive to traditional ferries. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't live that far from BC any how but never been to coast and always want to see the BC coast and your picture still confirm my wishes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in earlier.
Great shots, Margy, of that beautiful stretch of waterway up there. Hope to get up that way again someday.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pic, I especially like the first one.. Thanks for sharing!
