The Powell River Books Logo

Every company needs a logo. It allows for quick product recognition by customers. When Wayne and I created our company Powell River Books to publish his Coastal BC Stories, we wanted a logo that was meaningful to us and the books he was writing.

We started with one of our favourite pictures from up the lake at our float cabin. That made a lot of sense, because the first book in Wayne's series was Up the Lake.  That's a term you hear a lot around Powell River, especially in the summer.

Wayne is handy with a computer.  He took the colour photo and used Photoshop to create a three colour image.  Voila, our logo was born, right down to my floating garden in the foreground.

Now we use it in all of our online signatures and printed materials.  We even had T-shirts made with our logo on the back to give away are events like Sea Fair and the Blackberry Street Festival.

Do you have a logo for your company? How was it developed? -- Margy

  1. Nice story about your logo. I'm very visual so I enjoy looking at logos and figuring out the meaning behind them. Sometimes they don't seem to relate at all and you have to wonder what the designer was thinking.

  4. I never thought about "my logo" but my business card (for private tutoring) has a shelf of books at the top.

  5. Thanks everyone for stopping by to comment on my ABC post. When we originally chose the logo picture, we went to a local company to see if they could make it into the image we wanted. They quoted several hundred dollars to do what Wayne finally accomplished in Photoshop. It's nice to be able to do things on your own. The savings would have paid for the cost of the software. But fortunately Wayne already had it from his book publishing work. - Margy

  11. Perfect logo! That up the lake photo is also perfect, such a beautiful place. I don't have a logo yet, am still working on developing "the business" though it's still really a hobby. You give me motivation to get going with it. I have to visit ABCWednesday again too...haven't been there for many weeks.

  12. Thanks everyone for stopping by and commenting on my ABC Wednesday post.

Lise - We originally got our idea from a T-shirt that was done in a similar way. Look through your great photos and something might work to get you started on a logo.
