Hanging Out with Pacific Paragon

This year we decided to leave our ocean boat named Foghorn on the hard during the winter months we won't be using her.  She's up at Valley Marine where Jeff did her annual inspection and winterization.  You can see her in the background on the left up on blocks.

In front is a skookum (strong) ocean going tin boat, a big brother to our little 14' model. Her name is Pacific Paragon.  Paragon means "a person or thing regarded as a perfect example of a particular quality" or "a person or thing viewed as a model of excellence."

If you've ever used a tin boat, paragon in an excellent choice for a name.  I'm not sure how she made her way to this boat yard in Powell River.  Her transom sports the home port of Secret Cove, BC.

We took Foghorn there on her maiden voyage (with us) from Richmond to Westview's North Harbour.  The way Pacific Paragon is parked it makes me think of a "Follow Me" vehicle used to park planes at the airport. Maybe she'll lead Foghorn back to the sea. - Margy

  1. I am so jealous of your boats/cabin on the river and plane! We just accomplished step one which was just to move by the ocean. Our next step is to get out on the water on a regular basis - trying kayaks this spring.

  2. We call tin boats Tinnies. . I like your name, PACIFIC PARAGON...it sounds very posh.
We have a sail boat and my hubby says he will paint my name on the side.
I am honored, as long as it doesn't sink. I am a little afraid to sail in it as I can't swim...and there are lots of sharks in Australian waters.

  3. Aah, life on the water, such a joy! Looks like you have everything you need to bring excellence to that experience:)

A large body of water is the one thing I wish we had up here on our mountain...I am not complaining mind you, I love our log cabin life with our flowing creeks...but I do love floating and moving on water!

  4. Cheapchick - Glad you are enjoying BC. We rented kayaks the first year in Powell River and loved it. We ended up buying a used one from the rental company. They sell of older models all the time for a reasonable price.

Crystal Mary - Interesting different places use different names. Sailing isn't my favourite. I prefer a power boat that doesn't kneel over so much in the water.

Lise - Creeks are good too. For some reason, I feel most comfortable near the water with mountains nearby. Dry and flat Southern California was tough on me.
