Fly the Friendly Skies

The waves of storms we've been having are interspersed with sunny breaks. Last week when I took Wayne to Vancouver International Airport, a beautiful rainbow emerged from the darkness.

From the ground, it could be seen from horizon to horizon, much wider than my lens could capture.

I wonder what it looked like for the passengers of this jet? -- Margy

  1. It would be wonderful to view the rainbow from the plane. Great photos.

  2. What a shot, Margy. It's a real stunner.
Probably the passengers in the plane didn't see the rainbow as well as you did, because I understand it is a matter of angles and refraction, etc., none of which I know anything about.
But oh, to be a pilot, to have a chance to see a rainbow in its entirety. Maybe. Depending on the angles, etc., as per above.

I love the second photo. Hmmm. Is it just my eyes or is there another rainbow (though faint) above it? =)

  5. Yes, there is a second rainbow above the first. It looks as if it's a mirror image, though; as I see it, the colours seem reversed, with yellow/green on top, and pink inside the circle.

I wrote that, then decided to check Wikipedia. Sure enough, the second of a double rainbow is backward. W. Rainbow
