Mackerel Sky Over Willamette

Last weekend we lucked out with good weather for our winter kayak trip on the Willamette River in Oregon. The trees looked bare, but up close you could see all the buds just ready to pop.

But the clouds forming a Mackerel Sky forecast wetter times to come. -- Margy

  1. Well, I thought I had heard just about everything, but I've never heard the term 'mackerel sky' before. Good thing you included a Wikipedia link.
It's rather gorgeous in its way, though, isn't it? Nice photo, Margy!

  2. Loved that sky shot! I'm waiting for the weather to warm up before I break out my kayak - can't wait!
