Introduce Yourself Right On

This week I was tagged by a blogging friend. Her name is Kay and her blog is called An Unfittie's Guide to Adventure. She lived in BC, but is now in Alberta. She calls herself an unfittie, but she sure gets around. Stop by and see for yourself.

Like Kay, I don't usually participate in this type of activity, but because she's been a dedicated reader, here goes. I'm to answer 8 questions, so as the cheerleaders at my old elementary school used to say, "Introduce yourself, right on!"

1. Why did you start blogging?

My blog started and still serves as a means to help Wayne promote his Coastal BC Stories books, but as Kay mentioned, "it grew from there." I really enjoy writing about float cabin living and our exciting adventures.

2. If you could travel anywhere in the world with no restriction of costs, where would you go and why?

This probably sounds cliche, but I would go up to my float cabin on Powell Lake. We discovered it during a summer airplane camping trip in 2001 and haven't wanted to leave since. Last year we did venture away for a Newfoundland trip, but it only served to reinforce that we picked the perfect "vacation spot" to live full time.

3. Did you have a teacher in school that had a great influence in your life?

I come from a long line of educators. I played teacher before I ever went to school, and then became one. My most memorable teacher was Mr. Vanderpool. He was new to teaching and made sixth grade really exciting, especially for all the girls who were smitten.

4. If you could spend one day with a famous person, who would it be and what would you do?

He may not be famous, but I would have like to spend a day with Canadian author R. D. Lawrence. His books about exploring the bush and studying wolves are fascinating.

5. Toilet paper, over or under?

Actually, I keep it in a covered plastic box so the mice around the outhouse don't tear it up to make nests.

6. Name one thing in your life you would do over if possible.

Nothing. Even things that I thought were bad at the time usually resulted in something good later on. Life is too interesting to worry about doing things over.

7. Tell about your pets - if any.

Our cat Stick Tail has moved in with Mom. They have "retired" together. We are on the move too much to care for a pet, but I do claim Buster the garter snake, Bert the barn swallow, and Peanut the squirrel as pets of the natural kind.

8. Do you live in a small town or a large town?

I grew up in the big city of Los Angeles. In 2001, Wayne and I started the process of moving to the small town of Powell River in Coastal British Columbia. It took until 2008 for us to complete immigration to become permanent residents. I really enjoy bumping into people I know while shopping and having friends stop by the cabin.

Kay said she was supposed to tag 10 people, but chose just one, yours truly. Rather than tag a specific reader, I'm going to leave it open. If you would like to participate, please join in. And thanks for joining me again for Wednesday Friends Day. -- Margy

Fabulous answers, Margy. I particularly love the toilet paper one. How many people can say that these days? Reminds me of the "good old days" when I was a teen and we lived in a "homemade house" on a hillside with a whitewashed outhouse.

"Toilet paper ... mice ... nests."

Had to laugh! I remember that well! And the pack rat in the root cellar, the bears in the cereal, goats in the dining room. The joys of life outside the big smoke!

I miss those days.
