Sailing into the Sunset

The city of Powell River BC looks across the waters of the Strait of Georgia towards Vancouver Island. That makes for some really spectacular sunsets.

Not long ago I looked out my front room window and saw this lovely sailing ship passing by.

We are in the middle of some of the best cruising territory in the world. To the south of us are great little coves like Pender Harbour and Princess Louisa Inlet. To the north of us is world famous Desolation Sound and the many glacial carved inlets and islands along the BC coast. They would all be wonderful to explore in a magnificent ship like this. Can't you just imagine yourself on board? -- Margy

  1. I have been so bad about commenting. I don'tknow where my head has been. That is a great picture.
The Zodiac is moored at the ferry landing. My First sailing is a training sail over night on 4-10-11
    I can hardly wait.
I will try to do better.

  2. It is so nice to see a boat in full sail. It sometimes seems like the rush of everyday has taken over our recreation life with many sailboats being power by motor to get from here to there faster.
A beautiful capture Margy. Have a wonderful long weekend.

  6. Oh how GORGEOUS! tranquil and exciting at the same time.

Sorry that I haven't been around much - trying to limit my blog time and do more "real-life" stuff. Yes, Wayfarers Chapel is still big on weddings. I saw a very posh Philipino couple leaving in a cream Rolls one Saturday in Feb. One of my closest friends got married there in 1984 (day before Thanksgiving) and I was the maid of honor. The wedding was beutiful, the reception was so much fun (at King's Harbor I think), the marriage didn't last, but she has been in a wonderful relationship for the past 15 years.

  8. This photo combines two all-time great themes: sky and water, plus sailboats. How I envy your being able to see this out your window! Best of all, though, is the color. That combination of golden light and the blue beyond could well inspire a lecture in a color theory class.
Thanks for stopping by the Farm, Margy, and reminding me of your terrific blog.

  9. These are stunning photos! I've always been afraid of getting on sail boats though, they seem like such fragile things...I have absolutely no issue with cruise ships, ferries and motorboats though!

  12. Is that beautiful!!! I love it when the sky turns the whole atmosphere and the water into such amazing colors. It doesn't happen every day, and you caught it just right. Yes, I'd love to be on that boat!

  13. And don't the names bring back the feelings of the early explorers? You have Desolation Sound. We have Cape Disappointment and Dismal Nitch. Several people have mentioned missing the cafe at the airport. I was never there, but I'm sorry it's gone. So many small businesses are just hanging in right now, and others are closing or have closed. I hope most can hang around for better times. We need them!

  15. Absolutely stunning photos, Margy! It looks tranquil and calm, but those heavy seas and wind almost kept us sitting in a ferry terminal for Easter. We missed that storm by only hours.

I hope you and Wayne are having a marvellous Easter holiday!

  16. Those are gorgeous photos!

Margy when I was a little girl I spent my summers boating with my parents. One of my favourite places we visited was Princess Lousia Inlet...and I remember those falls. I remember washing my hair and how it felt like silk....I remember sitting in little pools caused by those falls...it was mighty cold...but hey I was a kid.....what did I know....ah yes...I loved that spot....I'm thinking I am going to be asking my hubby to take me there on our boat....

    Wonderful post....Happy Easter to you!
